Saws and Blades
Scotchman’s Circular Cold
Saw Cuts Up to 4 Inches
Scotchman has introduced a new heavy-duty column design in its CLM 350 semi-automatic Circular Cold Saw. The saw features a rigid column design, which allows cutting of up to 4 inches of solid tool steel fast and efficiently, and is rugged enough for tougher alloys and heavy wall tubes, the company says.
Standard features include: completely hydraulic down stroke/up stroke, built-in hydraulic feed pressure reducing valve, hydraulic material clamping, ability to miter 45 degrees, two cutting speeds, 3.3 HP, flood coolant system, separate coolant reservoir and chip collection drawer, electric foot pedal, emergency lock-out tag-out and one blade. The CLM 350 SA comes with a two-year warranty.

AME’s Combined Saw/Drill
Designed for Rails
Advanced Machine & Engineering Co., Rockford, Ill., offers the Amsaw R-series saw made specifically to cut rails for the railroad industry. The combined saw/drill unit is designed to improve efficiency and productivity by offering smooth, accurate cuts, durability and long tool life, the company says.
Designed for high-production cutting of high alloy rails, the rail saw is said to offer many features. They include a saw blade changeover time of less than three minutes, hardened spindle gears ground for minimum backlash, a special saw blade guide and dampening device for accurate cutting to stabilize the blade, a low-maintenance design, and dry operation in which no coolant is needed.
An electronic overload device monitors cutting performance and stops the saw feed when necessary; the heavy, welded machine base is ribbed and braced for rigidity; and a chip conveyor conveys chips to the rear of the machine for deposit into a tote box.
The R-series saw also offers a flexible setup. It can be combined with an integrated or inline rail hole drill machine for bolted joints at the rail ends or with infeed and outfeed material handling systems.

Tri-Tech Carbide Blade
Cuts Difficult Metals
Lenox, East Longmeadow, Mass., has created the Tri-Tech CT, a set-style carbide blade for large cross-sections or difficult-to-cut metals. The versatile Tri-Tech CT blade can cut a wide range of materials, from high-strength steels to nickel-based alloys.
The blade has a set-style tooth pattern that is specifically designed to cut straight and eliminate the pinching that can occur when cutting high-stress metals such as Inconel and other super alloys. The high-grade carbide tips are precision ground for efficient cutting while maintaining a balanced workload between the teeth, the company claims.
The proprietary tooth geometry of Tri-Tech CT creates three thick chips with each pass, making a more productive cut by keeping the blade moving through work-hardened materials. The high performance backing steel goes through a detailed preparation process that minimizes body breakage and extends the life of the blade.
The blade comes in 14 specifications, ranging from 1.25 to 3 inches in width.

Houghton Introduces Biodegradable Cutting Fluids
Houghton International, Valley Forge, Pa., has developed the Cut-Max V500 series of neat cutting oils in response to the growing need for metalworking facilities to comply with environmental guidelines and promote cleaner machining operations. These biodegradable, vegetable-based metalworking oils are free of mineral oil and chlorinated additives.
Cut-Max V500 cutting oils resist oxidation and provide high natural lubricity to extend the life of cutting tools. Their low viscosity helps maintain fluid longer and reduces dragout on swarf. Additionally, these vegetable-based oils have higher flash points than traditional cutting oils and produce less mist and fumes, reducing the risk of fire and improving worker safety, the company claims. Using Cut-Max V500 products can eliminate the need for expensive carbon dioxide fire blanket equipment, which is often required when using lower flash point mineral oils.
Houghton also offers a compatible range of vegetable-based hydraulic and slideway oils for customers looking to completely convert their machine shops over to modern, renewable vegetable-based alternatives.

Processing Equipment
Red Bud Expands
Edge Trim Offerings
Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, Ill., has expanded its offering of edge trim systems to include material up to one-half inch (12.7 mm) in thickness. Its new heavy-gauge system can take up to 2 inches (51 mm) per side from coils at that maximum thickness.
The system includes push button motorized horizontal clearance and penetration adjustments. Its exclusive floating head design tracks the strip as it is being trimmed. The heads will automatically adjust for cambered material to produce optimum width tolerances.
Side guides automatically adjust for mill edge coils. Setup takes as little as two minutes per job. Self-threading scrap chutes provide safe hands-free threading to either scrap choppers or scrap winders. The chutes automatically adjust to strip width for quick setup.

Powered Vacuum Lifter-Tilter
Lets One Person Handle Big Load
Anver Corp., Hudson, Mass., offers an air-powered vacuum lifter-tilter that features fully adjustable suction cups for handling multidimensional architectural panels and large metal plates. The Anver AT Series Vacuum Lifter-Tilter is a powered lifter that employs a compressed air cylinder for powered tilting and lets one person easily lift and tilt panels weighing up to 2,000 pounds, the company says. Featuring fully adjustable suction cups with extra long suspensions and individual air valves, this lifter-tilter can accommodate large panels with varying dimensions. Equipped with extra long handles to keep the operator safely away from the load, the lifter-tilter includes a vacuum loss sensor, audio-visual alarm, and can be supplied with a variety of suction cups for handling different surfaces. This below-the-hook lifter-tilter eliminates hooks and slings. Electric powered versions are also offered.
